In 1952 Alexander Girard was hired to head up the fabric and textile division at Herman Miller.
Some of his most famous works were for the La Fonda del Sol restaurant in 1961 were he designed everything from menus to table cloths.
Girard also worked with Braniff International Airlines and helped with re-branding everything from the sugar packets to the ticket counters to the colour of the planes themselves. Girard designed a range of furniture for airline lounges too which was made available to the public by Herman Miller in 1967 for one year only.
Here is a small selection of the textiles from his collection.
